Deep within the enchanting rolling fields, lived a boy named Shepherd. His existence was unadulterated, simple yet virtuous. His primary duty was mainly to care for his flock of ewes.

Their low murmuring and the rustling of the wind among the solo tree on the peak were his only companions. Day after day, guarding his wards imbued in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.

However, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. In one such instance from sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a mischievous plan.

Narratives of wolves hunting on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One morning he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but saw nothing threatening.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This prank persisted for a few more days. However, one morning, a real wolf actually attack the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect read more only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the results of crying wolf.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once lost, is hard to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
